In 2023, at The Special Foundation’s Annual Summit, we gathered for a powerful conversation on Transforming Education; and what a conversation it was! From thought-provoking speeches to heartfelt testimonials, the event reminded us that education is not just a privilege but a responsibility we all share.

Key Moments That Left a Mark

One of the most unforgettable sessions featured Abubakar Suleiman, CEO of Sterling Bank, who delivered a reality check on social responsibility. He emphasized that in a society where children live in slums, even the most privileged are part of that slum. He also emphasized that helping isn’t charity, it’s the duty of the elites. His words resonated deeply, urging everyone in the room to step up.

Then came Olakunle Soriyan, whose speech on his remarkable journey to success struck a chord with many. He spoke about the undeniable link between education, family, and opportunity, using his colorful upbringing as an engaging storytelling tool and reinforcing why The Special Foundation continues to champion providing underprivileged children with access to quality education.

The Big Takeaways

Beyond the inspiring talks, one message echoed throughout the event: no one can do this alone. The summit highlighted the urgent need for partnerships and collaboration in the social impact space. If we truly want to rethink education —especially for underprivileged children— we must work together to make it happen.

And of course, who could forget the emotional testimonials and inspiring moments? The very kids we support took the stage, sharing how the foundation has changed their lives. From their joyful dance performances to the heartfelt singing of our foundation’s anthem, it was a celebration of impact. And in a moment that had the entire room laughing, one grateful beneficiary told the audience:

"Motor will not jam you in Jesus' name!"

A simple yet powerful way of saying, "May you be blessed for all you’ve done for us."
